Hospital 21: Breathing new Life in the 21st century Hospital

The UIA-PHG seminar entitled "Breathing new life in the 21st century hospital", which took place in Paris in 2018, addressed questions concerning the hospital of the future, digital hospitals and emerging trends in hospital design. The book also includes a special focus on new architectural design concepts specially tailored to accommodate the trend of ageing populations.

These issues have generated reflection about a new concept of Hospital buildings that should take into account continuous technology systems development (from robotics to big-data, modelling & simulation, etc.), which are necessary to best meet the healthcare needs of people and the community, ensuring technological integration, digitisation of functions and flexibility of the environment.

The UIA-PHG extends its thanks to co-editors Roberto Bologna and Thomas Schinko, as well as the supporting staff members at TESIS-University of Florence.
